LOST IN THE CITY OF LOVE
by Sullivan Fall
Lost in the city of love and I'm not getting any younger so
It's time I got up some get up and go and got myself out of here
Cause everyday's a slap in the face when no one's holding your hand in place
Too many evenings seem to go to waste like milk and bread and beer
Oh no there's no crime, no reason and no rhyme
No secret deep enough to lure her in
And no there's no light that's coming in to sight
No point in staying for this lonely citizen
When you're lost in the city of love the streets are crowded from the dawn til dark
And everybody's showing off their lover's marks now that summer's reign's begun
Then when the winter comes on, the lovers hide inside til winter's gone
But together they can weather all they come upon and clean-ups always done
By the ones who wonder how to solve the mystery
Of the love kept under somebody's lock and key, like me
And no there's no answer when he finds the gall to ask her
And the references are few and far between
And no there's no question, in fact it's rude to mention
Just how short the time before you need to be seen
To have someone to lean on
Lost in the city of love

ANNIE NONE
by Sullivan Fall
She’s too pretty to be perfect
It’s the law of averages
She says “show me a love that is worth it
And I’ll show the bandages”
Sad attempts at slipping fingers in the light of a dull movie glow
While the wish on his breath may linger, she’s gone with his pockets still full
'Cause the only choice for a girl is to desert
In the war of the losers and generous jerks
By the time she could tell she was sinking
On one who convinced her to care
She said “sorry, it’s just wishful thinking
To think that I might be there”
'Cause What do you get when you fall for a man?
A run in your stockings and blood on your hands
And they say “hey, Annie None,
why are you always such little fun”
But she does what she wants cause all that she’s known
Is “all that you got is your own”
All that’s good goes to hell in a heartbeat
And I won’t be staying that long
Close your eyes and think of England,
Well that was some grandmother’s song
Promise comes first and heartbreak follows,
You can’t trust a man who believes true love swallows.
And they say “hey, Annie None,
why are you always such little fun”
But she does what she wants cause all that she’s known
Is “all that you got is your own”.

ANSEL
by Sullivan Fall
This monument is an accident
The mark of man mere ornament
So immense and indifferent
Even in parmelian prints
And i'm trying to capture the light (3x)
Before the shadows all get lost in the night
Monolith stands unmoving, unplanned
Awaiting the ages to turn through the sand
A labyrinth made from the drift of the land
Needing no divine hand
And i'm trying to capture the light (3x)
Before the shadows all get lost in the night
There are more chords of tone than we've ever known
Hidden within this inchoate abyss
The awe is too real, the depths will reveal
Themselves looking down from the precipice
And i'm trying to capture the light (3x)
Before the shadows all get lost in the night

CRAZY WE'LL BE
by Sullivan Fall
Let madness descend like an old friend
Loony lovers off the deep end
Into the water it's one or the other
It takes a kind of mind
It takes a kind of mind to make it sense
So crazy we'll be, crazy we'll be
If that's what it takes dear for us to be free
And when they come calling for you and for me
If you want to be crazy then crazy we'll be
We hide in refuge from the outside
In hopes that delusion will provide
Into the darkness, we can't tear apart this
Mystery no one believes
No one but you and me
So crazy we'll be, crazy we'll be
If that's what it takes dear for us to be free
And when they come calling for you and for me
If you want to be crazy then crazy we'll be
Crazy we'll be, crazy we'll be
Until we find somewhere we can be free
And if you are going don't go without me
I don't want to be alone.

DRINK LONELY
by Sullivan Fall
Christmas lull, no one's around
They all went back to our hometown
The only time I go back there now is for funerals and weddings
Mind's too full of season rhymes
Movies seen too many times
Counting out all of last year's crimes
It's enough to start me heading
Down the street the night has shown me
Drink lonely, drink lonely
New year's crawl, just three drinks in
Confetti hearts with a champagne grin
Midnight kisses meeting chin to chin
I'll need some harder stuff to handle
But there's no light when evening ends
An empty pocket has fair-weather friends
No new escapes or horizons, just an unattended candle
And wherever the night has thrown me
Drink lonely, drink lonely
Drink lonely, drink lonely
It's only your life.

The Dying Parts

THE DYING PARTS
by Sullivan Fall
The faded color of your skin, your half-bled eyes all sunken in
Nothing like a love to hate, so tired of sleeping late
The poisoned water where we swam, we followed out unto the dam
We'd watch the buildings fall if we could see at all
This is our freedom now, wearing through the same somehow
And the shame we can't fulfill, it's the dying parts that kill
The animals were first to go, started showing melted snow
The pile grew until the day we had to stay away
The houses started coming down, making dust out of this town
For everyone that was unmade someone sure got paid
This is our freedom now, wearing through the same somehow
And the shame we can't fulfill, it's the dying parts that kill
She's got a fever and I can't relieve her
I'll never leave her.

IT TAKES AN HOUR TO MAKE THE DAY
by Sullivan Fall
Hello morning, alarm's just a warning
That sunrise came hours ago
Sure i'm missing a face worth the kissing
But half-dreamt songs on the radio
Don't hold
Cursed with beauty, a burden of duty
I'll have to take them at their word
These distractions from this sweet inaction
Awake but still mostly absurd
I've heard
Overfed and under-read
Wake up in strange positions
In the covers of my bed
But there is no reason for me not to stay
Out of the sun and out of the way
When it takes an hour just to make the day
It takes an hour just to make the day.

TROUBLE GIRL
by Sullivan Fall
Say goodbye to the morning that you missed
The one that didn't hurt
And hide out from the daylight in your eyes
Since it found you in the dirt
You've gone too far, kicking your way up to the stars
Was it ever worth the skin it takes
To act so satisfied
Did you dance til you were sorry that you came?
Left drunk down the street of your life
Did you sell your soul to some street corner saint?
For someone to hold and a new coat of paint?
Come on trouble girl, come trouble me
I could make the mistake of thinking I'm free
Did they peel you off the pavement once again
Are there bones still left to break?
With your quotation mark eyes and Dietrich grin
In the cold with a nicotine shake
Did you sell your soul to some street corner saint?
For someone to hold and a new coat of paint?
Come on trouble girl, come trouble me
I could make the mistake of thinking I'm free
I'm just came here to see how bad it could get
Who needs wake up if you never get to rest?
Did you sell your soul to some street corner saint?
For someone to hold and a new coat of paint?
Come on trouble girl, come trouble me
I could make the mistake of thinking I'm free.

YOU WON'T ALWAYS BE SO SAD
by Sullivan Fall
There is the best of us
But mostly the rest of us
Crash from one shift to another
Sure they praised you
When they raised you
But you can't get it straight from a mother
Oh, this radio torture is soon gonna break us
For idiot rule who'll never mistake us
For anything more than a means to an end
Sooner or later it's you or your friend
So happy birthday and here is your present
Of poverty, filth, and wretched contentment
So listen now kitten, lick your wounds and to bed
And know that sooner or later you're dead
And when you feel nothing you won't feel so bad
And you won't always be so sad
No, you won't always be so sad.

I CAN DREAM, CAN'T I?
by Sullivan Fall
I can dream, i can dream, i can dream, can't i?
I'll keep it away where no one can spy
And then when they ask me why i dream
Why ask why?
'Cause i can dream, i can dream, can't i?
