THE BRONZE BADGE
by Sullivan Fall
Kid you could be so much fitter
If you quit all this lying around
The habit's no good for your growing
And you're already slowing down
Some get the gold and the silver
And some get a valentine's card
The bronze doesn't mean you're not trying
It just means you're not trying that hard.

Can't Get Excited

CAN'T GET EXCITED
by Sullivan Fall
Get over yourself and get under somebody else
Hold out your heart until you've won her, until it helps
It must be nice to take such advice
And then to have a chance to follow through
If no one cares, then no one cares
And no one less than you
Can't get excited, Can't get excited, anymore
Take a turn around the crowded dancefloor, to a familiar sound
In search of swallowed hearts for rites of l'amour, till a reason is found
Can't fit between all the lovers in mid-lean
Holding up the harbour front at night
Still overhear despite the music in my ears
The petty accusations of a lover's fight
Can't get excited, Can't get excited, anymore
Can't get excited, Can't get excited, oh what for?
What's another year without the scars of a career
The sturm and drang of things no longer thrills me
But i'm not running from the crash that's gonna come
No i won't run even if it kills me
Can't get excited....

Go On, Give Up

GO ON, GIVE UP
by Sullivan Fall
So we pulled through one more year
Despite the threat of love and fear
The fridge was empty and the tap would drip in time
Still we made it out of there
A little gun-shy and thread bare
Mostly broken but not beaten by the climb
But you lost your share of light
And it's darker every night
Till the daylight you don't notice anymore
Just like that summer dress you were barely hanging on
I knew by morning you'd be gone
You always swore that you would leave before too long
Before the day could prove you wrong
But if you feel you've got to go, then i guess you've got to go
And if ours is not enough
Then i guess it's best to go on and give up
For all your time in the debris
All you ever found was me
A sorry sight but still you pulled me from the dust
Now it's my turn to relieve
The sorrow that makes you believe
That's it's up to you to hurt for both of us
But i will stay up till you do
If it takes the whole night through
'Cause tomorrow would be wasted anyway
Just like that summer dress you were barely hanging on
I knew by morning you'd be gone
You always swore that you would leave before too long
Before the day could prove you wrong
But if you feel you've got to go, then i guess you've got to go
And if ours is not enough
Then i guess it's best to go on and give up
Now i'm no great provider, i'm no shelter from the storm
But i would catch a fever if it meant that you'd be warm
'Cause we're in this together or what else is it for?
Just like that summer dress, barely hanging on
(Do you want to give up or go on)
You always swore that you would leave before too long
(Do you want to give up or go on)
Just like that summer dress.

Her Safety Word

HER SAFETY WORD
by Sullivan Fall
Oh you're so smart, you wormed into heart
At least you're close enough to be considered
You wore her down till you could hang around
But it's still up to you to prove that you won't wither
Ever since you've been trying to convince
Her highness you'll be there for every order
On bended knee, in royal company
Anything to please the beautiful ignorer
'Cause she don't need you and she don't want you
Like you want her to
You can try to just forget her but just one letter
Is all it takes to make a liar of you
So you cry out loud and call out her name
But she don't come, maybe you never heard
She needs no crowd, she don't feel the same
But for her love is just a safety word
After all this time, you're still not on her mind
Long enough to make a real impression
But you can't refrain despite the threat of pain
And so you take the lumps, at least it's an expression
No, she don't need you and she don't want you
Though you want her to
She won't give you a reason, just some teasin'
Before she tells you just what to do
So you cry out loud and call out her name
But she don't come, maybe you never heard
She needs no crowd, she don't feel the same
But for her love is just a safety word
Oh her kind of discipline
Has no desire to let love in
No she don't need you and she won't need to
For what she wants to do
She won't not if you beg her, but don't renege her
Cause that'll only show you have no clue
So you cry out loud and call out her name
But she don't come, maybe you never heard
She needs no crowd, she don't feel the same
But for her love is just a safety word (2x).

Living For You For Now

LIVING FOR YOU FOR NOW
by Sullivan Fall
So i follow you around when i need somewhere to go
And when it's over, well i never seem to know
But time it goes so slow when i'm left on my own
It will take more than a lie to throw me off your trail
Even though it's obvious i'll fail
That reason will prevail, still i'll be on your tail
So i'm living for you for now
I'm living for you for now
Living for myself just isn't working out
I'm living for you for now until there's no doubt
Now it's too late to make a tragedy
There's no weight in a surprise
So i'm hiding out under your grace until you realize
That i'm living for you for now
I'm living for you for now
Living for myself just isn't working out
So i'm living for you for now until there's no doubt.

LET'S NOT PRETEND THAT IT'S LOVE
by Sullivan Fall
The pains of our youth have all settled in
The blood and the bone and under the skin
The weather turns colder, the cling will begin
But let's not pretend that's it love
We've been taking the train to our daily display
Dimming our dreams down a little each way
We'll take the losses whatever it pays
But let's not pretend that it's love
There's no going back to that feeling before
But that is an absence we've learned to ignore
You take the airbed i'll sleep on the floor
But let's not pretend that it's love
Let's not pretend that it's love.

BUILT FOR LOVE
by Sullivan Fall
When they first cut the cord, the doctors had their doubts
A heart this size was strong enough to leave the house
But time it came if rather slowly then moved on
And soon enough the urge was gone
Monica told me her sister told me too
That life gets easier the more light you let through
But that is something that i still know nothing of
Guess that i just wasn't built for love
Never made the grade despite the price for lessons paid
The same old state is still bed-ridden
There's never been, at least i've never seen
Evidence that my desire is only hidden
Sometimes a smart girl plays dumb enough for me
But pretty soon they figure i'm dull company
They smarten up and leave before we have to touch
Wasn't built for love i know that much
Never could explain an easy take to a refrain
From ever feeling for another
Now as it stands, no amorous demands
Of going back to find some lover's covers
When life is done don't put my body in the earth
give it to science, maybe they'll know what it's worth
Dig around until they find a heart so small
They will see it wasn't built for love at all
Nothing there to take the call.

ANNE HEDONIA
by Sullivan Fall
Caught me while young, hadn't got much living done
Before you took hold and held on tight
If i could say with you gone it would be okay
Somehow i doubt it'd soon go right
Anne hedonia, i wish i'd never known ya
Or all this fear that hangs around
Where all that changes is where the pain is
And when the next proof's coming down
That no more pleasure can be found
And every little victory gets dimmer in my memory
Until it's ancient history, if not total fantasy
While life's sensations and mixed temptations
That come around for every one
Just seemed to miss me, and so easily
Still i hope that you had fun
'Cause anne hedonia i'm done
I'm done.

IT'S OVER AND OUT
by Sullivan Fall
Always swore to get out before all the rot settled in
Take what is left of life at it's best, let the memories win
I know that it's no act of genius
To go untouched by the cold hand of venus
But so what if this isn't all meaningless
It couldn't mean less now
So last chance to laugh at the loser
Who can't dance or face his accuser
Who can't grasp a reason ever changing this doubt
It's over and out
Saved no proof and stayed so aloof, left no promise unkept
It's easier when silence your friend always helps to forget
But keep your hope for the turn that's impending
and spare the rope for the fates now descending
A beautiful unhappy ending
Is reason enough to stay
So last chance to laugh at the loser
Who can't dance or face his accuser
Who can't grasp a reason ever changing this doubt
It's over and out
So come on over, it's over and out
Get your piece of the former, it's over and out (2x).

What Doesn't Kill You...

WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU
by Sullivan Fall
"Don't bother me", that is my philosophy
Even when reality won't throw me a bone
Still i cling despite the way i'm withering
Hoping maybe time will bring some comfort in being alone
For all this sweating like a monk in heat
There's just one lesson learned in each defeat
Friedrich you were wrong (Freddy you were wrong)
In fact you couldn't be wronger
What doesn't kill you won't make you stronger
From your first cry (Freddy you were wrong)
To your dying breath
What doesn't kill you will still bring you much closer to death
Save your brain from eternally recurring pain
You won't have to dream again if you just take the cost
But you don't need everything you're told to feed
Just a bag of the birdseed for your choice of albatross
The great abyss will only paralyze
Until you've settled for the all too velvet eyes
Friedrich you were wrong (Freddy you were wrong)
In fact you couldn't be wronger
What doesn't kill you won't make you stronger
From your first cry (Freddy you were wrong)
To your dying breath
What doesn't kill you will still bring you much closer to death
That is if you're not dead yet
Friedrich you were wrong (Freddy you were wrong)
In fact you couldn't be wronger
What doesn't kill you won't make you stronger
From your first cry (Freddy you were wrong)
To your dying breath
What doesn't kill you will still bring you much closer to death
Bring you much closer to death, bring you much closer to death
If you're not dead yet.
